Fire Drill and Reset Procedures for District Fire Alarm Systems

Updated October 2016

Although most of the district’s fire alarm systems come with a drill test button in the fire control panel, it is always best to activate your system during a drill with a different pull station each time the drill is run. There are two reasons for doing this:

  1. The drill test button can’t always be programed to activate all horn/strobes and speakers using this function and will activate only part of the building’s notification devices.
  2. Each fire alarm system is inspected and tested every summer and all devices are checked to insure that they are working properly. Using a pull station each time the drill is run will activate all horn/strobes and speakers in the building and check the integrity of the system throughout the school year.

Drill Procedure

STEP 1. Call and place the system on test with the monitoring company (800-683-6773) for a determined amount of time 15 - 30 minutes. You will need to give them an account number and pass code.

STEP 2. Go to any pull station and pull it to activate the alarm. Once the alarm is activated you need to reset the pull station immediately.

NOTE: For Silent Knight Fire panel you will need the #1347 key that is in the fire control panel door to reset the pull station. Other systems will require a screw driver or an Allen Wrench set to reset the pull station.

STEP 3. Follow your fire drill procedure. Once the building is clear you can silence the alarm at the fire control panel with the silence button.

STEP 4. Once the fire drill is completed, push the reset button in the fire control panel to put the system back to a normal condition.

NOTE: The pull station must be reset before resetting the fire alarm panel or the system will go back into an alarm condition.
